In a closed system of cause and effect we have an actual path that can be followed back precisely to the beginning of the universe.

That is another definition of determinism. Such a system may be too complex to predict, but will unfold in a fated chain of events. Even my prose on the subject would have been embedded in the fabric of the beginning of time.

This is actually a severe constraint.
