Letters to the Editor - IHT (Today) iht.com . The race to war . As an American World War II combat veteran, I protest the race toward war by the Bush administration. Since my days flying B-24s over Europe, I have watched my nation descend from the generosity of the Marshall Plan to a steady effort toward world domination. It sickens me. . Many of us went into battle believing that each human being should have a share of the world's goods - and that all of us are called to battle for the rights of others as well as our own. . Now we see our nation assuming the ancient role of the big bully who for a fleeting moment can be king of the hill, keeping most of the world's goodies for itself, while demeaning all others and rendering them dependent upon us. .
