Well, I am surprised that you Dell bulls seem to miss how to interpret the news correctly.

techweb.cmp.com
Pedersen said HP understands $999 is "not the most profitable part of the market," but suggested it would be a "weight-carrying member of the family" for HP.

The system is expected to use an Intel processor of an as-yet-unspecified speed. Pedersen said HP continues to talk to alternative processor makers, but said Intel has been responsive to HP's requirements.

What's HP's requirements? A special price deal on Pentiums from Intel! As it was a hard bargain on this chip and others, HP and Intel haven't decided which chip to be used on HP sub-$1,000 PC.

As to Acer and Compaq special deals with Intel, do you expect Intel-Acer-Compaq-Dell-GWT-HP to announce who got the special deals and who did not get the special deals from Intel officially? <G>

Acer and Compaq special deals from Intel have been reported during the last three months. Go back to dig through these tens thousand PC related reports. You could find them out yourself. Ask yourself if Intel has the good intention to block off any business opportunity from her competitors? Then, you would get the right picture towards Dell's higher costs on CPU and motherboards from Intel. If Dell didn't ask for it, Intel won't give the special deal to Michael Dell.

Dell is going to be "The Short of The Year". You could bet that I won't miss it.
