I am saying that in response to unique circumstances society can choose not to exact punishment. It is not necessary that there be a precise analogy in preexisting laws governing homicide, since there could not be, after all. Conception as a consequence of rape is a unique circumstance, and one might compassionately refrain from holding someone who terminates the pregnancy liable. All that is necessary is that the ground of the exception be extreme enough so as not to vitiate the main point of banning abortion, which is the affirmation of the value of innocent life.......
