Bush Takes Tax Plan on Road, Backs Snow

With public doubts about his handling of the economy growing, President Bush on Wednesday took his tax cut plan to middle America and predicted his Treasury secretary nominee, John Snow, would be confirmed despite a drunken driving arrest and a child custody dispute.

Bush delivered his message in front of a fake wall of cardboard boxes stamped "Made in U.S.A." The real boxes, set to Bush's side, had their "Made in China" stamps blotted out.

LMAO

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll found that a majority of Americans disapprove of Bush's handling of the economy for the first time in his presidency. Fewer than half of those polled supported Bush's tax cut plan, unveiled with much fanfare earlier this month in a bid to boost the stock market and his own re-election chances in 2004.

Bush's tax cut plan faces opposition from Democrats -- and some moderate Republicans -- that threatens to block its passage in the narrowly divided Senate.

But Bush's budget director, Mitch Daniels, acknowledged last week the federal government would run deficits for the "foreseeable future," with far bigger than expected shortfalls of $200 billion to $300 billion this fiscal year and next.
