Wow, that's 4x to 10x higher than what was published as a "valuation"...
No wonder there's a "bit of unpleasantness" over this.
We could, however, afford to buy the oil. That's always been the case. The military-protection cost of M.E. oil brings it to $40 to $50/bbl, might as well grow corn-methanol, or pay for increased efficiencies, or any number of options, at that price.
With the Cold Warrior mentality, however, it's smash-and-grab. Being the world's only superpower, it's quite natural that the bureaucracy wants to demostrate that. We'll have to figure out another way, if we don't want to self-destruct, tho'
And consider the costs of having the Bush Oil Kleptocracy in office in purely economic terms. If the terrorism and global conflicts are somehow related to it, the US alone is suffering trillions in damage due to these policies. We'd be better off sticking to our knitting, creating the most advanced economy and society in the world.
Let the non-meek destroy themselves, while we create ways to have everything we need without that level of oil dependency. |
