John,

Getting that off my chest did help :-)

The issue of class in the US revolves around money. You can put a silver spoon in GWB's mouth and his dad's - but that would also apply now to my kids and eventually my grandchildren. Whats wrong with leaving money to the kids and giving them a step up?

On the discrimination issue - very few of my type ever went to Yale or any other Ivy League school and the racial profiling helps keep us out. We are now lumped in with the WASPs who kept us out because it is convenient to look at discrimination by race rather than national origin or religious background.

Lets remember that the other two K's were for Kikes and Katholics.

To combat this we built our own univeristy systems and helped each other up the ladder. So maybe the kids can go to BC or Notre Dame.

Your old enough - you should remember the debates and editorials all around America concerning our first and only Catholic President. From previous posts - you mentioned liking the man :-)

Another hot item for me was some Chinese American writer claiming how many poor Chinese coolies built the railways and that they needed to jump on the Black restitution bandwagon. Conveniently forgetting that for every 10 miles built by Chinese coolies 90 miles were built by Irishmen and eastern europeans brought in under conditions at least as bad (my own ancestors are split between post-famine regular immigration and pre-famine indentured slavery).

The history of the Irish - if you want to follow it - is as bad as anything Africans have been through. Genocide, colonization (heard of Ulster), forced starvation, forced emmigration, slavery, indentured slavery going back several hundred years before the first Englishman bought a slave in Africa (from an Arab or African) to bring to his plantation in America.

We just look the same. And mostly we like to forget the history and pick up with where we are - in America.

John
