Why shouldn't US officials meet with PKK? They've met with every other Kurdish group, as has been widely reported. Any assistance against Saddam and Al Qaeda greatly appreciated.

Maybe this supports Stratfor's allegation that the Islamist government in Ankara is going along with US requests to station troops in Turkey because they are afraid if they refuse there will be a coup.

>>The Islamist-led Turkish government already has capitulated to its secular military on the subject. Ankara's position is that if it opposes the military now, it faces a potential coup. If the war goes well for the United States, it can claim a share of the spoils for having cooperated, however grudgingly. And if the war goes poorly for the United States, Ankara may muster the domestic strength to challenge the Turkish military.<<

Someone in Ankara is in a snit so wants to rat out the US, hoping to strengthen Turkish opposition.
