Actually, I did not take a "right to life" approach, I took a "weighing of important values" approach. In the case of rape, I think the weight is in favor of abstaining from punishment that would be likely to deter, and that symbolic punishment would likely be lost on people, under the circumstances. Therefore, I have no objection to making a compassionate exception in that case.......
