we pay 4K a yr for family of 3 w/2500 deduct.

that sounds right, a little over $1000 per person per year.

The only real issue I have with this type of plan (which is what I have), is that I have heard horror stories about the insurer dropping people if they get sick. So say you are in the plan for 5 years and nothing, all of the sudden you get cancer and are then getting max benefits over deductible for multiple years going forward. If the insurance company can just drop you if that happens, what is the point of insurance really?
