Here is some evidence that AOL membership may have peaked in June. This may just be within statistical variation, but should be watched over coming months. Here are some stats from my live.net site. The first column is % of total requests. Except for a drop from 5.29% to 5.23% (.06% drop) Jan-Feb, the number has increased every month except until July, when there was a .40% drop from June. The first thing to note is that this is a much lower percentage than is claimed by AOL as their share of total web usage. (Doesn't AOL claim to represent something like 30% of all web page requests?) Because this site consists primarly of a "live" image of San Diego Bay, the main content of this site can't be satisfied from cache, so it would seem to be a good indicator of AOL's overall "web share". (AOL will always claim that since their proxy server caches pages, you can't get an accurate picture by simply looking at site stats.) Anybody "in the know" know what the .ipt node represents? "proxy" is obvious.
