Thomas Paine wrote polemical pamphlets, not gossip retailed as news. Woodward and Bernstein worked for The Washington Post, one of the Establishment newspapers. (No other papers "shunned" Deep Throat, because Deep Throat was just a Woodward source). Matt Drudge had a track record as being fairly accurate, which is why people listened to him. (I never used him as a source). Some sources are more credible than others, and if one relies on less credible sources, one should expect criticism.......
