Hello John,
I have fond memories of our long past discussions.

Frankly, as do I. And of your help with our trip to the North Carolina Outer Banks. That's why I'm startled at this last round of posts from you. You had a sense of humor before, as well.

The issue is condemning the honorable service of an individual. Those who never served are not qualified to do it (Yes, I really mean that. I doubt you think I am qualified to judge your contribution as a professor.). Those who have served understand the sacrifices that every serviceman and servicewoman makes and would never criticize another's honorable service.

It is an outrageous and egregious wrong. I won't stand idly by and listen to it...anywhere.

You will, most definitely, have to do so. I gather you are responding to the criticisms of Bush's service. And I seem to recall some of your posts about Clinton. Much worse than anyone has typed here about Bush. So criticisms of presidents is fair game. You should recognize that. Not only is it fair game; it's responsible citizenship.

Even though you never served, I thought you might get my real point.

Well, I did. But that's quite beside the point. Making these kinds of comments has absolutely nothing to do with whether I was in the military or not.

All this talk about criticism of the military on your part is off base. I have no problem with it. Rumsfeld does it quite regularly; as do other members of the Pentagon. I gather, however, you are reacting to criticisms of policies of the Bush administration and then calling them criticisms of the military. Because that's what's been happening here.

I repeat. Take another deep breath and another long walk. And check the humor box on the next table over.
