That's the idea.

I had a neighbor who had worked for Gotti as an accountant in the gahbage business. Got nailed on a plane chartered to some Carribean island with about $100 million in cash on board. Guiliani put him away for a couple of years.

He said when the mob would take the "sleeps with da fishes" candidates out they'd tell them to take a deep breath and start counting when they hit the water. That gave them a ray of hope about being pulled back up until they heard "then when you die you'll know how long you can hold your breath" splash.
