The "gang that can't shoot straight" has been in power since Nixon, with unbelievably high covert funding and illegal activities escaping prosecution, stirring up trouble around the world for decades.
It boils down to whether one believes, as you do, "these wars are really necessary", or as I do that the USSR would have collapsed, terrorism is knowingly stimulated by our policies, and the overwhelming tendency towards aggression hasn't changed since George Washington warned against overdependence on standing armies, and Eisenhower against military-industrial influence.
(Oddly, ultra-liberal Chomsky says the DOD is necessary for economic reasons, to stimulate technology, which I disagree with completely. But that's yet another fallback for the DOD apologists, one area where they agree.)
Hindsight is certainly 20/20, but even that is intentionally clouded by rewriting of history ... We paid hundreds of billions to experts to have a bit better foresight, and that foresight has been steadily and completely compromised in the interests of greater militarization, as the path of least resistance, and greatest reward for insiders.
I guess we won't solve this problem this evening -g-
But I'd certainly be happier with disclosure and transparency, rather than the guessing games forced upon us all by 30 years of increasingly covert control over our country's finances, military and civilian sectors, and with the same people at the controls. |
