What does this mean? The two nationalreview articles are totally consistent with one another; the author apparently just took time to further research questions that had been brought up after his first story. At any rate, both articles appear to be well-researched and totally support the notion that Pickering is being subjected to nothing less than a Borking.

The third article apparently makes only passing reference to the case and, if anything, by being short on facts and long on innuendo, would seem to support the position that the Dems are out of line on this case. I saw nothing in the articles indicating racism, and really, there were several areas where he appeared to take strong positions against racism.

I see two versions......the National Review article says that Pickering reduced the guy's sentence. The other article says that Pickering offered to motion for a new trial.

Something doesn't make sense here........why would Pickering offer to motion for a new trial if he had already decided to give the guy a lighter sentence? You automatically assume that the Nat. Review version is the correct one; I don't. You also appear to be making the same assumption as Pickering........that the sentence of the D. Swan should match that of the 17 year old. Why? I don't.......there are some very glaring disparities between the two that you, Pickering and the Nat. Review seem to be ignoring.
