Besides, most normal procedures will be suspended after the war because they will have to get Iraq back on its feet......assuming we win it and quickly. Competitive bidding may not be the rule but rather the exception.

I don't know of ANY conservative who would consider that we ought to receive any advantage in dealing with the Iraqis over their oil or anything else.

This is first a national security issue -- we can't allow another lunatic to have nukes if we can avoid it. It is second a humanitarian one (remember, we attacked Milosivec with less provocation than we've received from Iraq, at least according to Richard Holbrooke -- and I agree). Finally, it WILL help to stablize oil supplies.

It seems to me the Left would have us ignore the first two issues simply because Iraq has substantial oil reserves.

The greatest proof against the Left's position that we're going after Iraq's oil is that, in '91, it was there, we could have marched directly to Baghdad, and George Bush said, "No, it isn't our mandate". He could have done it if it was the oil he was after. Is your allegation that George Jr. wants the oil, but Sr. didn't?
