First, let me re-iterate my knowledge that your "brand" of claimed Libertarianism is so far removed from the Freedom at the root of it that the word Libertarian simply cannot be objectively applied to you.
As for the TIA program, it certainly "seems(LOL- your word)" to be a bag of worms which could lead to serious problems, however acceptable and obvious the "why" of it as asked in your posted letter, may be. Locating folks with very bad intent is the acceptable, even pleasing, why of it. Your notion that it "seems to be a completely malevolent and intrusive tool of repression" doesn't fit the intentions behind it, and you are thus and again over the top here, IMO. In the long run, a program such as this has very troubling aspects and NEEDS to stick to a well defined charter, lest your fears become a reality which I certainly don't believe George Bush nor anyone now involved intends.
I agree with your posted letter in that issues surrounding possible eventual usages of the program ought be resolved with the maximum protection of individual Freedom & Rights in mind because,
Freedom does Work(not governmental interventions into privately held money and business which you have advocated),
