PLAYING MAD

George,

Re: Nixon and Kissinger toyed with the idea of hinting that Nixon might be "mad" enough to use nuclear weapons in the Vietnam War. The idea was to scare the enemy into giving up.

In fact, Nixon did send diplomatic notices to Ho Chi Minh that the U.S. was about to unload "nuculars" on N. Viet Nam and the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Cambodia at the time of the massive anti-war demonstrations that occurred in October, 1970. He most likely would have gone through with this mad scheme except for a few wiser heads in his Administration who correctly argued that dropping the nukes on non-nuclear nations would create chaos and massive civil disobedience within the U.S. It wasn't until just recently that I found that my participation, along with half a million other brave patriots had an effect on the mad scheming of a power-crazed jerk.

Hopefully there are at least a couple of voices of sanity in the Bush Administration who realize what a dangerous game of brinksmanship Bush is playing today. Bush has clearly lost the nation. He'll tear this country apart if he attacks unilaterally, with only the poodles in Britain and Australia to back his mad scheme.

An interesting news item came out of Australia today. An opposition leader spoke to 350 troops on a departing troop ship and told them that he believed that they were being abused by their Prime Minister in the mobilization to the Gulf. I can only imagine the conversations this will elicit on the ship as these hapless soldiers approach Iraq. I think it's a wonderful thing this honest patriot did.
