the point is you cannot explain away every short term misstep with some long term paradigm shift. Yes terrorism is here, and it has changed the landscape for the US. Does that make it ok for Bush's cabinet to talk openly about "it only takes one bullet". I don't think so. We'll all find out in the next elections. But there are a whole ton of people who don't bother voting unless their livelyhood is threatened and these people are going to come out in droves against Bush this time around. He really, really screwed the economy.
