Re: It calls first of all for support for our system against those who would self-destructively bring it down.

So are you going to join with me in a call for John Ashcroft to desist from attempting to poison the conversation at Davos with claptrap like: "We find ourselves in the midst of a historic struggle for the values of democracy. It's more than a duty. It's more than a privilege. I believe that it is the calling of our time. We must rise to the challenge and we must answer the call."

Instead of this veiled religious crusading cant, shouldn't the man come home and arrest Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling and prove that we have a system worth saving instead of proving that we're an arrogant bunch of hypocritical criminals and cronies trying to stuff our vulgar brand of crass capitalism down the world's throat? Doesn't Ashcroft have an obligation to prove the decency of our system before he attempts to sell it to a very skeptical world? He seems to be convincing absolutely no one of his righteousness at present, outside the narrow confines of a malevolent cabal of Christian fundamentalists.
