Neo - I was alerted on another thread to an incident in which you defended a jla in a very ugly and extended spate of personal vindiction which was far, far over any reasonable line (not that that's anything new for jla) and for which indeed I understand he was suspended (which in the current state of SI seems quite hard to accomplish). I don't care about what he said -- I've known him long enough to know that he is one of the most foulmouthed posters on SI, that his level of "discussion" is limited to insult and namecalling lacking any semblance of intelligence, and that he would have been kicked out of St. John's the first time he opened his mouth in seminar. (I would love to refer some of his clients to that string of posts to see what they thought of the man who they paid good money to to speak on their behalf.) So his behavior is no surprise to me at all. But yours, in defending it, is. With all you have said here about the obligations of community, of interpersonal relationships, of what constitutes a civilized society, I was very disappointed to find you defending such behavior. Surely you should reconsider.
