The GSM Association would take profound exception with your perspective.

I could certainly be wrong here. i was under the impression that there are many regional pockets of GSM that have not been "enhanced" by GPRS (e.g., china mobile/unicom with their 100M+ GSM users). I'll have to look that up.

I wonder what percentage of 1x handset owners in Asia are data addicts? More than 17%?

I honestly don't know. That is the type of information that I think would be useful.
