High tech music and the internet brings up another question-------whatever happen to appreciation for live music and can we get people away from their computers, CD players, tv's and revive playing and hearing good quality live music?

Most musicians whom I know have daytime jobs as they cannot make a living doing what they truly love---playing with a combo, solo, in a neighborhood orchestra, giving lessons.

Over the recent months I have talked to numerous musicians---classical, jazz, folk etc. who would love to have a live audience for their music; however, they would like to be remunerated fairly for their music and talent.

So one looks for paying opportunities for these very good creative musicians and find that opps. are few and often the pay is minimal considering the lifelong committment to music musicians make.

If one gets paid for playing in a restaurant/cabaret one will likely get no more than $25. to 35. in the metropolitan area I live in. And, they are expected to play for 3 to 4 hours.

If they do get a paying gig---then having their own CD to sell helps a little---although they rarely recoup the CD cost if they are not backed by a music company.

While the internet and high tech can connect us all electronically, It is live music that imo truly fulfills that connection.

I challenge everyone on this message board to go listen to live music-----i.e. classical, jazz, folk, blues-----and then let me know which you'd rather have a wristwatch that spouts electronic music or a chance to listen live music.

Listening and being in the presence of live music is every bit as exciting and fun as live football.
