The liberal New York democrat helped himself, not investors.

I agree with many of the points made in this article.

Despite lacking a real case, the powerful Spitzer threatened and intimidated the investment banks. With the news media supporting him and gleefully reporting on leaked e-mails and other information about the investigation, there was no effective check on his abuse of power.

I would agree that Eliot Spitzer has abused his power...and this appears to be a case that has been "fought" with media support, with the goal of helping the political career of Eliot Spitzer.
