One has to have been to Middle East to understand that democracy cannot be implemented there by just displacing the dictators or monarchy. It will take a few generations to change people and their thinking.

Removing dictators/monarchy by external force does not ensure democracy. In fact it creates greater heartache for the world. Breaking up the USSR did not lead to democracy there. It led to an unstable society where crime is prevalent, mafia rules and women are forced into prostitution so the family can survive.

That was a rational society, eager to embrace change, eager to impress the West. The instability, crime remained local. Add religion, resistance to change, hatred of the West and many more more nasties to the cauldron and what do you get ?

Disaster of the highest order...

IMO toxic societies are lethal for themselves. Left to themselves, their imperfections will automatically ensure their decay. External intervenance creates imbalaces in nature which creates a set of never ending issues.....

But oil ! What can we do for oil ? And so it goes, and so it goes, and so will Bush, I suppose....
