I agree this is not all about race, but self-identity. The southern whites in the central valley are not as prosperous after 70 years as the whites that don't have that heritage. Draw your own conclusions - I've drawn mine. Southern values may not promote personal wealth if they don't embrace education. I'm fortunate that education was embraced in my family. My maternal grandmother valued education, even though she didn't have it herself.
