John, I agree brand equity is very important to the OEMs since they have to find a way to differentiate themselves in a what is basically a commidity end-product (although Dell is doing pretty well RIGHT NOW with their direct model). However, Intel, i feel, has 2 other core competencies that AMD/CYRX does not have now (and will not have for a very long time): manufacturing expertise and technological leadership. Unlike other traditional "component" markets in the PC industry (e.g. memory, disk drive) and in other industries, the barriers to entry in Intel's market is VERY HIGH. Therefore, you can argue a case for a Intel, as a component suppleir, always being the dominant player and having the highest brand equity, until someone catches up with them.
