Ok... JXM... don't misunderstand me here...
believe that there is a lot more to Iraq than what we see. And I don't think that it is the oil. If we made a move on the oil, I believe that most supporters that Bush has will desert him. And I am sure that he knows that.
Agreed... This has to do with Kingdoms in the Middle East and who controls what, including, but not limited to, oil.
haven't you been noticing that cells are being exposed on a nearly weekly basis. The latest being one in Spain. And prior to that, in England where they found Ricin. The war against Al Qaeda is a more quiet war now. It is about infiltration and intelligence. Personally, I think that we have OBL.
Exactly my point; and yes, I have noticed. So... why not more of the same, instead of this grand standing of a cowboy style war...
Understand me here, I am NOT a tree hugger and all that jazz... as far as terrorism goes and Sept 11 goes, I say burn the bastard terrorists, all of them, I do not give a damned where they come from and who they are. But we REALLY have to be a lot more intelligent than just going out there and start bombing places right and left, a la John Wayne.
Walk softly and yes; carry a damned big stick... but quietly.
So instead of taking responsibility for their end of the deal, they take the victim role...big bad Americans exploiting the poor little Arabs for their oil....cry me a fucking river.
I agree.... BUT taking a radical and unreasonable stand (just like the terrorists), is NOT going to solve one iota of the problem, it will only become another Israel ~vs~ Palestinia war.
Do you want that ? Do you want these freaking morons start bombing themselves in down town DC, or Chicago, or whatever ? Do you really believe that the "Home-Land Security Department" or whatever their freaking name is will be capable to stop the all too open and large borders and coast lines ?
And that is that we would start from zero again with international trade. Basically go to each country and say "ok, these are the terms of doing business with the U.S., do you accept or not?" If they accept, great, they can quit their fucking whining. If they don't accept, then cut them off completely. No trade, no foreign aid, no visiting the U.S., no sending their kids to our schools and certainly no intervention in their private affairs.
Well... I partially agree to the above.
I said "partially" because it is most probably, impossible to have the "my way or the highway" attitude. We simply are NOT an island.
Come on Jorj... the US has had it too easy for so long, we can't have the: WE ARE IT and the rest of the world are morons attitude. A lot of the former peasants have learned and gotten an education, and yes, many of them from Harvard, Yale and the like.
On the other hand, WE DID PUT SADDAM IN POWER, after all... and Noriega, and Somoza, and others.
Understand this: The people in Panama, and Nicaragua (and even in Cuba), are NOT the enemies of the USA, but give me a break, if the USA supports killers like Somoza, and Noriega, how the hell do you think they feel about US troops (or intelligence) supporting these rogue bastards ?
You call out for free trade, fine, I agree too... but let's do not kid ourselves about what has been done in the past. It is time to change, assuming we really mean. "democracy" and open elections.
We can't secretly support the local goons, and assume people are not going to see what really is going on. So just replace the names, Somoza, Noriega, and put the Saudi monarchs (and whomever other monarch happens to be ruling in the ME.) Then think what the regular person will think about it ?
Or... do you really think the rest of the world is that stupid ?
But then, if they fuck with us, the answer is quite simple and definitive. Time to make the world relationships real black and white, cut out all this gray crap that causes so many misunderstandings.
What ? So who exactly is "fucking with us" are the Cuban people fucking with the USA ? or is it Castro ? Can the people from Cuba do anything about it? (Or from Iraq for that matter)... more importantly, what will the consequences of a war will be?
What about the entire Muslim world, are they ALL fucking with us? Or is it their "leaders" and/or the terrorists?
So what now... you suggest we start bombing Iraq and then N. Korea, and then Cuba, and then.... take your pick.
Look, I am not a terrorist, or a commie, or anything like that. But I do not think we are heading in the right direction or taking the correct route.
I am only saying we better think this through, carry this to the next step, what will happen next and why. Where we are, and where do we want to be in the next 5, 10, 20 years and how we are going to get there.
Do we need the rest of the world? Does the rest of the world need us? How can we TRADE goods and services, instead of bombs. How can both sides win? Can both sides win?
I am talking negotiate, NOT with the terrorists, but with the many people who are NOT terrorists. Do we need to agree to ALL of their demands = NO ! But do we take the attitude: agree with me or else I bomb you? Or ignore you? Better yet, can we do the bombing and the ignoring without stepping on our own feet?
Time to make the world relationships real black and white, cut out all this gray crap that causes so many misunderstandings.
Fair enough, and I agree. So, no more supporting villains, assassins, and monarchs. After all, this country was founded fighting a monarch! so why are we supporting them now ?
As for being OT... well, partially so. And if you say so, I'll shut up. However, this war and its effects are going to affect us all, in more ways that we imagine... take a peak at this. You may think it is wild and crazy, but it has some base to it. I mean, in our pocketbook, in our trades.
Finally...
And I do think that there is a different answer than outright war, but I think that most would resist it more than a war.
You really think so ? Are you saying "most" would actually prefer a war ?
hmm... I think I am in serious trouble, so I better shut up. |
