That was nice of X to help you out in your response.

Of course you can't know that aliens aren't running the White House. But you can have levels of confidence. Since I have toured the White House and have friends who have worked in it I have some confidence -- not proof, but confidence -- that aliens aren't running it. But I've never been close to Iraq, and nobody I know personally has ever toured its hospitals looking for dead babies on the floor, so my confidence in that being false is somewhat lower.

And, in fact, when you come right down to it, Descartes was wrong.
