Interesting article, thank you very much for the link. After reading it, I don't think it directly affects the main thrust of the Digital Camera market.

It sounds like Intel is trying to encourage people to buy a Pentium device to carry around with them while they take digital pictures. Indeed having a PC around would make it easy to store many many pictures, as well as being able to edit them on the spot. But we already went through the digital storage medium problem when the camera makers chose Compact Flash for their medium.

For the same reason cameras don't want any fragile moving parts, cameras buffs will still leave their PC at home while they go out taking pictures. Thus, they still need a solid state storage device. The article mentioned nothing that would change my outlook on SanDisk negatively.

What is more interesting is the IDC report stating 12M digital cameras in the year 2000. That's about a 100x increase from today, in only 2« years. This is a rocket about to leave the launching pad.

People take cameras to the beach and to the Grand Canyon, not PCs.

Given that said, yes, the market may take it down just because some may confuse the announcement with the power of Intel...

If so, it would look like a buying opportunity to me.

Rex
