Hi, jp!! When you were talking about those riots in 1992 I remembered them suddenly, but have forgotten their cause. Skipper, anyone else from this area remember?? I remember lots of looting, and that people took advantage of a confusing situation. I also remember a riot in the Castro, and something about Police Chief Frank Jordan's shoe, but cannot remember whether they are one and the same. There have definitely been some riots here!!! But never scary to me, they are so far away from where I live.
I am thinking of the mistress now more in terms of demonology, if you understand my veiled reference(?)
I am behind on answering your posts!!! Maybe I can combine a couple of answers, as it is late for me and I have to get up early in the morning and go to work!!! You had a girlfriend named Desiree?? That is such a romatic name. I loved your poem at the poetry thread, which reminded me of that optimistic poetry that we write when we are young and fairly innocent. It took me back to when I was dating my husband, and everything seemed fresh and possible.
There is poetry on a lot of SI threads. You might want to check out Feelings #1008, Ask God #242, and Ask John Galt #891 and #1750. You are right about my feelings about my poetry. Some of it is throw-away poetry for me, but dark, like the poem you described of yours that meant more to someone else. I have several poems like that!! And some poems are just written at such sad times that they are painful to reread. I am not in a mood to write poetry at all right now. Usually very sad and very happy are the two times I feel like it. I guess everyone will be glad to hear I am not very sad!!!! (But then, how could you tell??)
Your chicken factory descriptions are about how I pictured them. Thank goodness you were unionized, or I'm pretty sure it would have been a lot worse!!
I took my daughter to a bookstore today, and we bought the Joan Hess book. It looks good!! I will let you know when one of us finishes it. This house is littered with stacks of half-finished and going-to-read-soon books. Thanks!!! |
