>>>Thread Header: "But the Bush Administration seems poised to conduct war on Iraq with or without proof."<<<
The Thread Header, originated on January 2, 2003, appears accurate to this day.
>>>1. "The inspectors' discoveries follow a radical improvement in relations between UN officials and Western intelligence which had been reluctant to hand over sensitive information for fear that it might fall into the hands of Iraqi officials, thereby risking the lives of agents working in Iraq."<<<
Which would you prefer: a) risking agents working in Iraq (how many and are they replaceable?); b) a war where hundreds of thousands, possibly up to a million will die, many of them Saddam's victims. Do you really favor a war on Saddam's victims, Vitas?
>>>2. "The United States meanwhile gave its strong backing to mooted plans to offer Iraqi President Saddam Hussein exile to avoid a war."<<<
I suspect this a diversionary propaganda-like story. Where's the beef to this, who planted the idea into the media and at who's behest?

>>>The fact that Western intelligence handed over the information at the risk of their agents clearly indicates that President Bush is trying to achieve a solution without going to war.<<<
Then why have't they found anything? If they did, please do tell us what they got and where is it?
>>>The fact that the United States gave its strong backing to mooted plans to offer Iraqi President Saddam Hussein exile clearly indicates that President Bush is trying to achieve a solution without going to war.<<<
Hey, it's easy to back a smokescreen. Particularly if the emphasis is somewhere else.
>>>As Bill told you:
"The US policy of peace through strength is designed to avert war. That's what it did with USSR and that's what it will do with this Iraq situation. So everybody keep your pants on and let the process play itself out."

And you will never "get" it.<<<
"What the world needs now is another [war bully] like I need a hole in my head!" Name that tune--lol!
>>>Bush is the good guy, Saddam is the bad guy. It is solely Saddam's responsibility to avoid war.<<<
Saddam is a bad guy; Bush is a bad guy. I see two black hats in this.
>>>He has to start being thoroughly credible and very diplomatic.<<<
Well, I think a good place for Bush to start doing this is for him to stop alienating our allies.
>>>Otherwise we are really not going to have a choice in what to do.<<<
There are other options. I had just posted one of 'em, just prior to your evening posts to me. Why not read that and let me know what you think? Vitas, don't let 'em start the war--it's the wrong way to go! |
