Hitler had two (essentially conflicting) manias: world supremacy (the race of supermen leading the lower-quality rest of the mankind into the future) and Jews ("all other races are 'minderwertig' to the Aryan but the Jewish is a race by itself"). When Hitler end of 42 realized, his mania #1 is shattered (the Moscow battle lost, 6th army at Stalingrad standing no chance, two-fronts situation) he went suicidal - he was anyhow from the very start). He declared war on US. And he gave a go-ahead for the final solution of the Jewish question (the world "Endlösung" still makes anybody who understands German, no to mention Germans themselves, freeze in tracks.
