i see tc gave you the how-to get rid of messenger service.
regarding NoAds not doing its job like it used to, are you remembering to periodically update the program? ad blocking appears to be an ever-changing proposition, and i learned that in order to get the best out of NoAds i have to click the Updates... button, then click the next Updates button, then it will update itself. the updating will be for ad blocking signatures, if you will, not for new versions.
to get new versions, visit the southbaypc.com site, which is linked in the Help button. to confirm what version you currently have, click Help, then About.
the most current version of NoAds is 2002.11.05
i try to update NoAds in this manner at least every week. the program will still miss a pop up here and a pop up there, but it will do a lot better job than if you neglect to update it.
