You know, that was something I thought of as well, however, this is a brand new WIN XP system (well three or four months old). I wanted my Mom to go to task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and we could check the CPU usage on the bottom, but due to the keyboard problem she cannot hit three keys and get anything.

How do I get to task manager another way?
