Lots of questions. I clearly know less than you do about what sorts of weapons Saddam has. You seem pretty certain.

My question is not what does he have but whether what he has represents an imminent threat to the US. We clearly disagree on this point, so it doesn't pay to dig around in it.

It is also clear that Bush has not made his case yet with the American public nor with sympathetic populations in the world. If he fails to do so and invades, we are all in a stew of complicated ingredients.

I think there is little doubt that the present stew is almost completely of Bush's making. Headier diplomatic work could have cut the enmity overseas dramatically. Also, whatever may be going on with the French and the Germans and the Russians and the Chinese, we know that, in the first two cases, the degree of movement on the part of those two leaders is severely limited by the rising levels of anger, in the populace, at Bush and company.

Interesting aside. Novak is reporting this morning that Koffi Annan had dinner on Wednesday night with George and Laura. Also along for the conversations were Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, Bill Frist, and Richard Lugar. Also spouses.
