Ted Re...The goal I want is to mitigate as much of the disparity that exists between the races as possible.
Why? Do you want to erase all differences between the races. A lot of the economic differences occur because of the differences in lifestyles. To even up the wage disparities, you must either change the blacks preferences to match whities, or even up the pay scales for the different jobs. I would suggest the later would be easier.
I want to erase enough of the disparity so the friction created by these economic differences is reduced. When the chances for advancement is equal for whites, blacks, Asian, Latinos, men and women et al, then complaining I couldn't get ahead because I am black or a woman will not be acceptable.

Talk for yourself. My greatgrandfather came directly from Germany in the early 1900s and settled in near where I live now. As a small farmer,and also my grandfather and father, they didn't hire help so they didn't discriminate against anyone, and therefore, we don't owe anyone. If you want the slave owners to pay damages, fine, then go after them,but leave me out of it. And what do the students at Michigan have to do with it? Slavery and racism was never popular in Michigan, so why should they have to pay for your paranoia.
I see. Under you definition, then, we should not be required to obey all laws; only the ones that really pertain to us. For an example, I am not an alcoholic nor do I drink very often. Therefore, I don't feel on those rare occasions when I drink and drive and my blood alcohol reading is over the limit that I should be subject to DUI laws.
Furthemore, I moved to Seattle only a few years ago......I don't see why I have to pay taxes for pollution cleanup that happened before I came here.....obviously, I didn't cause it. Plus I am paying for schools when I don't have children and may never have children.
This is so unfair. Scheize! I want to cry I am so pissed.
Instead, maybe we should all grow up and recognize that when your great grandfather moved here from Deutschland that scheize like slave abuse is grandfathered in for all of us no matter when we arrived to this great land.
