For those of you who are following along and/or care, I have some preliminary good news about the drive. (Thank goodness :)

The server's trusty 20 GB Quantum — chosen specifically because it is one of the most reliable drives ever made — appears to be completely fine. Only 137 out of more than 2300 spare sectors have been allocated from the drive's spare sector pools, and a query of the drive's S.M.A.R.T. status reports that the drive couldn't be any happier. I'm going to perform a read-verify pass across the drive to work the whole surface, then recheck the defect relocation pools. But, so far, it is looking good drive-wise — which is a huge relief!
