Robots seen as answer to dangerous military jobs.
This is something similar to my recommendation in Oct.2001 that I posted here.
story.news.yahoo.com
""Where this is all leading is the ability to replace men in the military in what they call the dirty, dangerous and dull missions," said Scott Myers, vice president of Eagle Enterprise, the General Dynamics division that is developing the robotic Stryker, in addition to commercial applications such as an automated pharmacy and postal sorting equipment."

I think they should develop broadband communications linking the robotic vehicles with soldiers outside the combat area. The soldiers operating them could have 3D video visors, and other sensory information (radar infrared etc..) from the vehicle that makes them like a pilot with sophisticated capabilities. They have sensors/technology now that can see through walls if the power is turned up. They should have robotic gun ships that are heavily armored with large numbers of machine guns and grenade launchers controlled with technology and soldiers from outside the combat area. They could send these on urban combat missions and control large urban centers without risking lives. Also, dropping large numbers of small robots (with telescoping arms for machine guns with video cameras) could by parachuted onto the tops of tall buildings and onto the streets to help control urban areas.
