What is your feeling about "retard" as applied to people? Retard is a fine word if you are talking about wave propagation in optical media, growth of plants, or other physical phenomena.

But if you disagreed with a certain poster, he would say that you are a "retard". To my knowledge you don't use the term "retard" in that way. That is to your credit.
