I like to think that (visionary and brave) elected leaders "lead", even in the face of opposition from home.

Statesmen are rare.

Our best time for input is when we grade them at election time.

That could be an "Old American" concept. When information spread at ship and pony express pace.

And, to a large degree, what do we really know about running a government in its myriad detail --

Bureaucrats can take care of details. The American public needs to be consulted on the big issues.

The current Congress is out of step with the American people. Two thirds of the American people do not support a war with Iraq sans UN support. Congress has given the president a blank check to go to war....essentially giving away their constitutional responsibility. Aren't they supposed to represent the people?? Are they perhaps more concerned about being painted unpatriotic?

Here are some questions posed to Yiwu

Why are the Chinese leaders afraid of building a Republic answerable to the people?

Why are they afraid of allowing their citizens a voice in government?

We might ask ourselves the same questions. What is wrong with giving ourselves direct involvement in the government? What is wrong with taking polls into consideration? Is it right to let a government go unchecked for four years?

California has a direct democracy. Tax law has been significantly changed due to the direct involvement of the California population. Left unchecked our California elected officials would drain our pockets.

Given the Internet I support a fourth branch in the American government. The government should be put on notice that it is the American people that they represent.
