<Which holds a morbid fascination for humans, poor mortals, fearful at every turn, dog tucker in an instant, passion's plaything, full of sorrow and laughter. Gold is the antithesis of life. >

Actually gold is as simple as the earth... nothing for the mind to chase after, 'figure out', or otherwise hold the fascination of. Some people today like to keep their minds busy and off real life, which on the level of mind tends to be mundane compared to concepts and buzzwords like cyberspace, pixels, digital nothingness. Compute the value of your account while shoveling what some used to call breakfast and actually taste and have conversation over right past the tastebuds.... which after all arent' much good now that it can all be heard and seen in cyberspace. Gimme another order of whatever that was btw... it wasn't very satisfying somehow... I know my ass is huge, but hell... I hear they're going to raise the bar as to what exactly is obesity anyway. Some people even think cyberspace IS life, which of course it is not... it is a tool for the mind. The mind itself is a tool, which, while cyberdreamers speak of artificial intelligence taking over the universe, is in fact taking over the universe:

After all no need for the rest of the universe... why walk out in the desert and notice the nesting cactus wren being attacked by the red tail?? It's all on cyberspace to be read about, and soon video will follow! What could we possiblly learn through experience that has not already been learned from someone else and stored on my harddrive for spoon feeding at a later date? Life is SO BOARING, my mind tells me this... it MUST be true! Give me the goggles to wear so I can see something more interesting than the wren... the earphones for my ears are jealous of having to listen to the real wren as well!! Surely there is more to be gleaned from moth eaten books on the 30's now on CD than a walk to the neighbors house and noticing repo man towing the car away?

<It's freedom from the prosaic, bland, banal and trite world of messy wet chemistry. >

So the mind calls 'reality'
