Follow this thought to its logical consequence: "After we conquer Iraq", the Saudis, Iranians and Syrians, will all work to protect their own regimes by helping destabilize the new Iraqi regime (by supporting, or at least not helping the US against, "freedom fighters" in Iraq). And the Turks would rather not see a healthy Kurdish state (not necessarily independent, but with local rule, as a democratic Iraq would imply) either. -- Carl
