Nothing military or strategic is contributed by it any further advances in any "reign of terror" scenarios.

Since you referenced "Dr. Strangelove", recall what the Soviet empire did with the "Doomsday Machine", exerted much science research and detail, and then oops... destroyed the world. Hollywood's ultimate in creating ever-more violent scenarios, with the ultimate result.

The US war planners are in the same position. Endlessly crafting scenarios of the obvious results of the increasingly extreme violence of automated weaponry makes it appear easier and more acceptable. It's like some psychopath sitting in his basement imagining how many different and creative ways to kill his neighbor.

Is there any question that the US is the most dominant and most undeniable military power in history?

More national security would be created by thinking about where combat fits into the overall success of this country, rather than further Nintendo War planning, as much fun as that might be.

As boxcutters clearly showed in 9/11, it isn't further advances in delivering extreme high-tech violence that will advance security.
