| <But Bush sounded like Santa Claus handing out presents there at the beginning> Yes PG, first half Santa Claus, second half Holy Crusader. Don't have the exact quotes but he implied that God was on our side as we spread self-determination and "freedom" around the globe. As if that's what US foreign policy is based on, roflmao. One commentator brought up the question of how the Bush administration sees China in that regard, and a very pregnant pause ensued. In any case, I was genuinely heartened to hear him speak of the aids epidemic in Africa - maybe there is some hope that the compassionate part of his rhetoric is something that will actually be put into action. BTW, just to show that I'm an equal opportunity cynic, I thought Gary Locke's rebuttal was pretty lame as well. The immigrant story was interesting and he does look sincere on camera, but he hardly took Bush to task on any of the issues. Well maybe the "privitizing senior healthcare" was a good shot, but he really didn't have anything substantive to say, especially about foreign policy. Locke is from my home state, Washington, and I just about fell out of my chair when he started talking about the need to properly fund education, as he has been instrumental in raising class size and erasing teacher's salary raises. All these guys are slippery as used car salesmen imho. |
