After the supporting words toward the people of Africa suffering under the aids epidemic, I would have preferred he said something like "I am asking Americans tonight to support a new fund to help the people of Africa called 'American hope' and join My Wife Laura and I who have just donated 100 thousand dollars toward the cause".

The federal government can do some things to help, but throwing hard earned tax-payer dollars at such a complex problem in Africa, will probably do less than a well run private charity could do.
