I meant that good "live" programming will also cannibalize VOD sales; sorry if that wasn't clear. Yes easy time shifting makes good programing more available, but the more important issue is the perceived value of "free" programing v. VOD. And I agree VOD, with the possible exception of live events like a title boxing match, won't be successful.

It just seems sensible to me, that if the cable operators see their subscribers going to stand alone PVR's, that they would want to get in front of the trend to create a revenue and (presumed) profit stream. If PVR's do cannibalize VOD, all the more reason to turn a threat into an opportunity.

Another example of the arrogance of the cable operators? Anyway, thanks for explaining why the MSO's have not embraced PVR's.

From your article, it sounds like Time Warner is at least experimenting with PVR's in some markets.
