Hmmmm discount brokerage eh?

I use Scotiabank and at just after 11:00 last night I put in a sell. I don’t do it every night though... I did have a problem with them one time overnight for cancelling a buy that I knew was a bad one. Their order status page said that it had been cancelled but I could see in market depth that it was still on. I don’t have a telephone here so I tried frantically through the email channel to get them to check it. I got notified that I had the buy at the open by the usual email notification.

They reversed it after a scathing letter. I’ve had to remind them a few times that it’s better to keep a customer you have than trying to find a replacement. My trades go through quickly and well in just about all cases and they have made good on ones that I’ve pointed out to them, so they will accept fault. I only approach them when I know damned well that I’m right.

You can set up your preferences to be online with them for 2 hour periods and they have just made your current cash total viewable; they used to update the next day. You can do the trade without putting in your security number before each one too now by setting up your preferences...so I think they are trying a bit harder than they used to.

My trades are almost always open when I click “check status” after confirm. Occasionally though they get bogged down but never for more than a few seconds, in my experience, now that they don't check to see if you're tall enough to go on the ride anymore.

They do have the unnerving habit though of changing their format layout without warning but it’s pretty easy to work through.

I hope you did get your sell in alright this morning.

Happy Trails,
Lenny
