In that case, he just pissed the other side off against them. I can't imagine that our taking a side, will help the more moderate Iranians. They have very good reasons for not liking us very much. We "helped" them to their Shah. And then we propped him up. They remember that. Now "helping" the other side, is only going to make that more moderate side reviled. Maybe that was the point, eh? Who knows.
